Joseph Pilates
09.12.1883 - 09.10.1967

Joseph Pilates was born in Monchengladbach, Germany in 1883 and was unwell throughout his childhood, suffering various ailments. He was so successful at improving his physical strength and overall health that by 14 years old he was strong and muscular enough that he posed for anatomical charts.
As he got older and travelled between Germany, England and America he starting developing a series of exercises and techniques to help other people to achieve the best from their own bodies. He believed that true health came from a mind/body connection, basing his Method on the Greek ideal of man balanced in mind, body and spirit.
Joseph and Clara Pilates' first studio opened in New York in the 1920's and nearly 100 years later people all over the world are still reaping the benefits of this amazing system of exercises.

A Little Bit About Me

IMG_20191125_121443_908.jpg

I'm Sarah, founder of Sarah's Pilates.

I graduated as a chartered physiotherapist in 2013 after studying at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Since graduating I have worked in a variety of settings within the NHS as well as professional sports. In 2015 I started my journey with APPI, the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute, studying all levels of modified Pilates Matwork. Since then I have completed additional courses including Pilates for Neurological Conditions, Ante and Post Natal Pilates and Pilates for Kids and Teens. These courses, together with my clinical experience have enabled me to develop completely individualised Pilates programmes for my clients since I started teaching.

I discovered Pilates for myself in 2010, initially starting attending classes to help me address an injury that was affecting my quality of life. Pilates enabled me to move without pain and I have been officially hooked ever since.

I started my Pilates teacher training because Pilates made me feel so good in my body and I wanted to share that mind/body connection with others. I believe that everyone should be able move and live with freedom; everyone's body should be a happy place to live.

Every body is a Pilates body and every body deserves Pilates.
